The Ross Dependency: Science on Ice stamp issue is a continuation of a NZ Post stamp theme going back to 1957. Historically, these stamps were intended for use in the special Post Office established in Antarctica by Sir Edmund Hillary. They played a role in supporting New Zealand’s claim of sovereignty over the Ross Dependency. The 2023 issue showcases the scientific research currently conducted by New Zealand in Antarctica.
